Mark Yee

I turned from a career in finance to art. Instead of telling stories about data, I now tell a much more personal story on canvas. It’s impossible to avoid the parallels of these two worlds.

“I make large-scale abstract paintings without using paintbrush. I work on multiple paintings at the same time and use sharp edged tools to add, remove, drag and scrape while the canvas is on the floor. I choose colors seen in nature and stormy weather.

I believe there is a very humanistic, biographical quality to my abstract paintings because they retain each mark like a thought etched into memory or a scar written on the heart.

My paintings are not meant to be religious but some people see the power of nature and sometimes they even feel a spiritual connection.” - Mark Yee
